LUCKNOW: A woman delivered a baby girl, her third child, onboard a special train while returning from Valsad to Lucknow on Sunday morning. The delivery took place minutes before the train reached Lucknow. Sunita, wife of Salikram, was shifted from Charbagh railway station to Queen Mary’s hospital on the KGMU campus.

“It was a rare case of delivery during lockdown in the state. Utmost care was taken by the ambulance and medical teams. With both mother and child healthy, an ambulance of the 102 service has now taken her to Sultanpur, her native place,” said Anand Dixit, spokesperson, KGH Health Services.

The doctors after initial check-up allowed her to go home at village Khopur in Hajipatti in Sultanpur district after giving necessary instructions about follow-up examinations.

The follow-up examination of the newborn will now be done by doctors in Sultanpur.

The woman started her journey for Sultanpur from Valsad in Gujarat and reached Lucknow, along with her husband and two other children on Sunday.

She was supposed to board a bus from Lucknow to Sultanpur but due to the delivery she was first taken to the hospital.

“The woman in her early 30s was found fit enough to return home. The medical team has been instructed to visit her home and take her to doctor whenever required,” said Dixit. Doctors also did coronavirus screening for the woman before she left for Sultanpur.
