UP ALERT OVER EXISTENCE OF CORONA IN MIGRANTS

LUCKNOW : The state health department on Tuesday sounded an alert over the likely existence of coronaviru­s disease among several migrant workers returning to UP from various states.

Addressing a press conference, principal secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad said a large number of migrants were returning to UP and the health department has received reports from several districts of infection among them.

Addressing a press conference, principal secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad said a large number of migrants were returning to UP and the health department has received reports from several districts of infection among them.

He said health teams in the districts were collecting samples of the migrants who have symptoms of Covid-19. “Random sampling of the migrants was also being done,” he said.

“Laboratory tests of several migrants showed that they were corona infected. Majority of the migrants are coming from Maharashtr­a, Gujarat and Delhi that are in grip of Covid,” Prasad said.

The health department has urged migrants to follow Covid guidelines strictly to check the spread of coronaviru­s in the state. He said the infected migrants were being admitted to isolation wards of hospitals and those who are free from infection are being made to stay in 14-day home quarantine.

Prasad said, 70,129 surveillan­ce teams have surveyed 58.53 lakh houses and 2.9 crore people across UP since the start of the pandemic. He said, 3,664 Covid cases were reported in 74 districts till Tuesday; 1,873 patients had recovered and now there were 1,709 active Covid cases in 67 districts. Seven districts -- Pilibhit, Shahjhanpu­r, Kaushambi, Mau, Ayodhya, Mahoba and Lalitpur have been declared corona-free after recovery of all infected patients.
