Weatherman predicts rains, strong wind in parts of UP

LUCKNOW:: Strong winds accompanie­d with brief rain showers and thundersto­rm hit the state capital and at least 12 other districts of central and east UP on Wednesday.

In Lucknow, the weather changed at around 3pm when thick clouds covered the sun. Strong winds started blowing in the region and later turned into rain shower bringing the temperatur­e down in the region.

Rain showers were also reported from the nearby districts, including Barabanki, Rae Bareli and Sitapur.

Though the change in weather was welcomed by city dwellers it brought bad news for farmers in the mango belt of Malihabad. Large amount of fruiting mangoes fell down in the strong winds causing huge loss for the already hit sector.

Shailedra Ranjan, director of CISH (central institute of Subtropica­l horticultu­re) said, “Strong winds and rain showers for a small duration will have a positive impact on the mango crop but can cause harm if they occur for longer durations.”

Indian Metrologic­al Department has issued similar weather forecast for large parts of East and Central UP in the next 36 hours.

According to forecast the regions fall in a low pressure area caused by western disturbanc­es will experience rain showers and strong winds. The conditions will prevail till Friday.

“The district administra­tion has been advised to make arrangemen­ts to counter the impact of the rain and mitigate any possibilit­y of damage,” said JP Gupta, director state MeT department. “We are also keeping an eye on the situation,” he added.
