Doctors associations extend support to agitating PGI doctor

-

LUCKNOW:: Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) have extended support to Dr Manmohan Singh, who has failed to clear his MD in nuclear medicines from Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) for third time in a row.

Alleging foul play in his results, Dr Singh has been staging a protest against Dr Sanjay Gambhir, head of nuclear medicine department, SGPGIMS.

FORDA, which is the national body of resident doctors, has supported the questions raised by Dr Singh and demanded more transparency in examination process.

They want to display the information about evaluation system like how many residents have failed in each department in last three years, lectures taken by faculty members in the academic activities taking place in the institute, was Dr Manmohan’s performance reviewed after every internal assessment that is held every six monthly and if the performance was not good what efforts were made by the department to improve it on institute’s site. Dr Singh claimed that he has been targeted by the HoD for last three years without any reasons. He has demanded revaluation of his copies. However, director SGPGIMS professor Radha Krishna Dheeman has constituted an enquiry committee which will decide that his allegations are correct or not and the committee will also decide whether to go for revaluation of copies or not. “Dr Singh had a brilliant academic record and the resident doctors association of SGPGIMS strongly condemns the injustice done to Dr Manmohan Singh and demands speedy action in the case,” said general secretary RDA Dr Anil Gangwar.

“The copy of the theory examination should be sealed and kept under the custody of the director and a committee should investigate the matter,” said Dr Gangwar. President of RDA Dr Akash Mathur said, “Doesn’t failure of the best minds of the country in examinations like these raise questions on the institute and its entire training system? Is it not against the principle of natural justice to not have any system of appeal in the event of failure? However, director of PGI professor Radha Krishna Dheeman said, “I have already formed a committee to probe the matter.”

The copy of the theory examination should be sealed and kept under the custody of the director immediately and an impartial unbiased committee should investigate the matter DR ANIL GANGWAR, general secretary RDA
