KANPUR/VARANASI/LUCKNOW: Passengers travelling in Shramik Special trains created a ruckus in Unnao, Pt Deendayal Upadhyay Junction (previously Mughalsarai) and Faizabad railway station in separate incidents on Saturday over scarcity of food and water in one instance, a five-hour unscheduled stoppage in the second and dry taps in the third, officials said.

At three places in Unnao, passengers of the Bengaluru to Darbhanga (Bihar) train resorted to violence and damaged railway property, said Ravindra Kumar, district magistrate Unnao.

The migrants complained that the train was running much behind schedule and alleged that even the toilets had no water.

At Pt Deendayal Upadhyay Junction, migrants blocked the track with a concrete railway sleeper in protest against a Vishakhapatnam-Muzaffarpur Shramik Special train being stopped for a five-hour unscheduled stoppage on Saturday, a Government Railway police official said.

In Faizabad, migrants onboard the Bengaluru to Chhapra Shramik Special train staged a protest at Faizabad railway station after finding dry taps on platform number three. The passengers said it was the third day of their journey and were finding it difficult to go on without food and water.

PROPERTY DAMAGED

The train had been stopped at the Unnao outer area for more than an hour. When it reached the Unnao railway station, the workers went on the rampage, railway officials said. The railway protection force (RPF) and government railway police (GRP) personnel pacified the passengers and the train started its onward journey. Similarly, the migrant workers at Ajgain and Sonik railway stations destroyed the cement benches and pelted the railway property with stones, officials said. The workers were pacified after the officials assured them of all possible help.

TRACK BLOCKED

Migrants put a concrete railway sleeper on a track after a Vishakhapatnam-Muzaffarpur Shramik Special train halted for five hours in the outer area of Pt Deendayal Upadhyay Junction during the wee hours of Saturday, a GRP official said. They calmed down only after senior officials spoke to them, the official said, adding that the train, along with another, departed later.

PROTEST AT FAIZABAD RAILWAY STATION

Migrant workers on board the Bengaluru to Chhapra Shramik Special train staged a protest at Faizabad station on Saturday after finding dry taps on platform three. The train resumed its journey after water supply was ensured.

“Migrants complained that even on third day of journey they went without water and food. We immediately resumed water supply at platform number three to control the situation,” said Arvind Chaurasia, CO, Ayodhya.
