STATEWIDE TALLY CROSSES 7,000-MARK; 15 MORE DIE

LUCKNOW : Fifteen more Covid-19 patients died across the state as the toll went up to 197 and 190 fresh infections took Uttar Pradesh’s tally of coronaviru­s cases to 7,176, according to official data released on Thursday.

“So far, 4,215 patients have been treated and discharged. The death toll in the state has reached 197,” an official health department release said. As many as 224 patients were discharged on Thursday. During the day, Ghaziabad reported the maximum 15 cases.

“So far, 4,215 patients have been treated and discharged. The death toll in the state has reached 197,” an official health department release said. As many as 224 patients were discharged on Thursday. During the day, Ghaziabad reported the maximum 15 cases. “In all, 1,926 migrant workers have tested positive in the state till now out of the total 62,141 samples collected from them,” said Dr Vikasendu Agrawal, state surveillan­ce officer in the health department.

Since March 2, when the first coronaviru­s case was reported in UP, it took the state 88 days to cross the 7,000-mark. On an average, the number of cases increased by 81 per day.

The 1,000-mark was breached on April 20 when the state reported a tally of 1184 cases. This was 49 days since the first case.

The second thousand (2053) came up on April 28, which was eight days after the first thousand. The state went past the 3,000-mark ten days later on May 8 with 3,214 cases. The 4,000-mark was crossed on May 15 when the tally stood at 4,057. In the next five days, the state went past the 5,000 mark. It crossed the 6,000-mark three days later on May 23. The state went past the 7,000-mark in another five days on May 28.

“While doctors are doing their work in hospitals, we, the residents of UP, have to ensure we follow protocol while outdoors and also at home, to ensure that the cases remain less,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Associatio­n of Internatio­nal Doctors.

Principal secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad on Thursday said, the active cases were decreasing in the state since May 11 and the recovery of patients was increasing. He said 7,923 individual samples were tested and 649 pool tests conducted on Wednesday. The state health department has kept 2,048 people in isolation wards and 8,454 people in quarantine facilities, he said.

The principal secretary said 94,856 teams were engaged in surveillan­ce of coronaviru­s infections in the state since start of the pandemic. These teams surveyed 74. 47 lakh houses in 12, 625 areas and screened 3.74 crore people.

He also said the health department control room made 38,054 phone calls after receiving alerts from the Aarogya Setu app.
