LUCKNOW:The Uttar Pradesh government will on Friday sign memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with Indian Industries Association (IIA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and National Real Estate Development Council (NREDCO) for employing 9.5 lakh migrant labourers of the state.
The IIA has demanded 5 lakh labourers while NREDCO and CII require 2.5 lakh and 2 lakh labourers, respectively. The demand has been made keeping in view the availability of skilled manpower following the skill mapping exercise being carried out at the behest of chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
Some other industry bodies have expressed their desire to hire migrant workers.
Following the nationwide lockdown, lakhs of labourers have returned from Maharashtra, Gujarat and New Delhi among other states to their home towns in Uttar Pradesh.
The state government has already started skill mapping of migrant workers.
“The IIA will sign an MoU with the state government on Friday for hiring around five lakh migrant workers in MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) units across the state,” said Pankaj Kumar, national president, IIA.
The IIA has 8,000 registered members across the state. According to the IIA, there are around seven lakh MSME units in Uttar Pradesh while the state government’s estimate is of 90 lakh MSME units. However, most of them fall under the micro category.
“We are in touch with all MSMEs in Uttar Pradesh and even those who are not our members. According to the skills of migrant workers, we will try to ensure job for them,” said Manmohan Agarwal, general secretary, IIA. The IIA has also recommended certain measures to the state government to ensure industry-friendly environment,
including bringing down commercial charges of electricity for industries to Rs 6 per unit.
Meanwhile, the UP government has decided to constitute a task force for mapping of migrant labourers and preparing their data bank specifying their skills.
The task force will comprise general manager of district industries centre (DIC), district labour commissioner, an officer of employment exchange and a representative of IIA.
