PRAYAGRAJ: Pratapgarh police arrested two people in connection with the incident in which a 25-year-old man was allegedly abducted and set on fire after being tied to a tree in Bhujauli village late on Monday night.

Apparently, the immediate provocation for the act was the victim posting pictures of his lady love on social media after she distanced herself. Those arrested include the woman’s father and another kin. Police have also lodged an FIR against 71 people and arrested five for attacking the police team and torching at least two police vehicles, including a 112 PRV (police response vehicle). Heavy force had been deployed in the village, said ADG zone Prem Prakash .

SP Pratapgarh Abhishek Singh on Tuesday informed the media that the woman’s father Harishankar Patel and another kin Shubham Patel had been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of Ambika Patel. FIR had been lodged against three named and some unidentified people for abduction and murder.

Another FIR had also been lodged against 11 named and around 60 unidentified people for attacking cops and torching police vehicles. Of these, five had been identified and arrested. The cost of the damage would be recovered from them, he said.

A s per reports, Ambika Patel had an affair with the daughter of his relative. However, the woman distanced herself after she got a job in UP police and was deployed in Kanpur as a constable. The enraged Ambika allegedly posted some of her photographs on social media and was arrested on March 3 when her kin lodged an FIR against him. Ambika was granted bail on April 1. On Monday night, the woman’s kin barged into the house of Ambika, dragged him out and tied him to a tree before setting him on fire.

Soon, Ambika’s family and villagers assembled at the site and turned violent demanding immediate arrest of culprits. The villagers pelted cops with stones forcing them to flee and torched two police vehicles. SP Abhishek Singh later reached the spot with heavy force and PAC and restored order.
