LUCKNOW: Bodies of five members of a family, including three children aged between 5 and 10 years, were found inside the locked house in Barabanki on Friday afternoon, said police officials.

The primary investigation suggested that the couple had committed suicide after killing their children by slitting throat and wrists, said police officials.

The bodies have been sent for post mortem examination and further probe is on. They said the probe also hinted that the family was under debt and was going through acute financial crisis.

Superintendent of police (SP) of Barabanki Arvind Chaturvedi said the couple were aged 37 and 34 while their two daughters were aged 10 and 7 years and the son was five-year-old.

He said the inter caste couple had married some 12 years back against the will of their families.

Since then the couple, along with children, stayed in a separate portion of the parent’s house with separate entrance and exit while the families of man’s two brothers along with the mother stayed together in different portion in Safedabad locality.

The SP said the victim’s mother as well as other family members and locals informed that the victim’s house was locked for past three days and no movement of family members was seen. The incident came to light when the victim’s mother went to inquire about the family when she did not saw them for two days. She discovered the body of her son hanging from the ceiling of a room. She then informed other family members who in turn informed the police.

“The house was locked from inside when the police broke into the house to discover other bodies,” said the SO while narrating the sequence of incident.

Inspector of City Kotwali Pankaj Kumar Singh said the circumstances suggested that the couple first murdered their children by slitting throat and wrists with the kitchen knife apparently after giving sedatives. Later, the man hanged himself while the woman ended her life by slitting her wrists, he added. Locals told police the deceased had the liability of over ₹ 30 lakh and was under pressure to return it. The police found a suicide note undersigned by the couple in which they mentioned about their financial crisis and their inability to fulfil their responsibilities.
