There is never a dull moment

Lockdown has been a great teacher for all. It mocked the basic principle that says man is a social animal. Now isolati-on and social distancing are the new norms. It was during this period that I learnt that we can easily do with very little in life.

Hectic life schedules came to a standstill. Yet, I continued to wake up early in the morning and take a walk for more than an hour in my premises or in the colony park. Thankfully due to less transportation activities the air quality has improved. The sky looks so blue, chirping of birds can be clearly heard, flowers are in their full bloom and the nature is at its best. All this gives a feeling of well-being.

From early days my hobbies were embroidery, stitching, knitting and tatting. Expertise in household chores came in naturally. After retirement I shared my talent with some women to help them to attain some economic independence. This passion kept me busy as well as made number of women realise their self-worth. Then the lockdown happened.

So my so called classes stopped but I continued with tatting, enjoyed experimenting in the kitchen and communicated with family and friends to stay connected.

One fine morning I woke up with the resolve to make face covers/masks, the need of the hour. I had ample material, though elastic was a scarce resource. My sister Pratima supported me, critically appreciated my work and in a way, became my designer. In the last 40 days or so I have made more than 300 masks and distributed the same Free of cost, not only to corona warriors but also to family members and friends. What started as a simple workable design - one size fits all - has now transformed to designer Masks – plain, coloured, polka dotted, reversible and matching. Special ones for the kids because they will be going to school soon. There is no stopping now – and the demand and appreciation is high too.

Life is fulfilling – time to give back to the society. And above all there is never a dull moment.
