LUCKNOW: Taking suo motu cognizance of media reports related to medical apathy towards two pregnant women by various government and private hospitals located in NOIDA, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government.

“The commission has sought a detailed report, including the action taken against the delinquent doctors and officers, from the chief secretary in the matter, within four weeks,” a spokesperson of NHRC said.

It also asked the Union Health Ministry to issue instructions to states and UTs not to deny treatment to those needing critical care other than COVID.

According to report an eightmonth pregnant woman died when a frantic 13-hour hospital hunt to find her a bed in Gautam Buddha Nagar district. The victim, aged 30 years, was taken to at least eight hospitals by her husband, including the governmentrun ones, before she died in the ambulance, just outside a health facility in Greater Noida on June 5. In a separate incident in NOIDA, a 26-year-old woman was allegedly refused admission by the NOIDA District Hospital in Sector-30. The woman delivered a still born baby on the pavement, outside the hospital. The family members of the woman said had she got timely treatment, the baby could have survived.

The spokesperson said, the commission has observed that contents of the news reports, if true, raise serious issue of violation of human rights as the state authorities have failed to ensure right to life and medical care to its citizens.
