AGRA: The mystery over the identity of the arrested teacher, who allegedly used the name Anamika Shukla to either draw salary from multiple schools of the government-run Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya chain or was involved in a proxy teachers’ racket, has taken a new turn. Her father on Monday said she was neither Anamika Shukla nor Priya Singh, but was, in fact, Supriya Singh.

“The police reached her village Rajpalpur in Kayamganj area of Farrukhabad. Her father Mahipal Singh, a farmer, revealed that his daughter’s name was Supriya Singh and she was a schoolteacher,” said basic shiksha adhikari (BSA), Kasganj, Anjali Agarwal on Monday.

Mahipal Singh told reporters that his daughter Supriya Singh completed graduation in 2018 and came in contact with a man who offered her a job in the name of Anamika Shukla. “The man used to visit the village and claimed to be a primary school teacher in Kampil town in Uttar Pradesh. He offered to arrange a job for my daughter and took Rs 50,000. He said the remaining amount could be paid by Supriya after she started getting her salary as teacher,” Mahipal Singh said.

“My daughter accepted the offer and got the job in Kasganj district. However, she was at home since all schools were closed because of the lockdown. She went to Kasganj on Saturday to resign when she heard of the controversy,” said Mahipal Singh who provided a bank passbook in the name of Supriya Singh to police.

The Kasganj police arrested her on Saturday and a court remanded her in judicial custody

on Sunday. She was booked as Anamika Shukla, the name under which she was working as a teacher at Faridpur KGBV in Kasganj district, the police said.

During interrogation, she first revealed her name as Anamika Shukla, then Anamika Singh and finally as Priya Singh, additional superintendent of police Kasganj, Pavitra Mohan Tripathi had said on Sunday.

Mahipal said his daughter had given him Rs 50,000 since taking up the job in 2018. He alleged the mastermind of the scam was a primary school teacher who belonged to Mainpuri but was posted in Kampil. The father said the man, whose identity is yet to be established, should be arrested. Five more Anamika Shuklas were found working in KGBVs in several districts, according to the state government. The authorities suspect multiple candidates used the credentials and ‘eligibility’ of Anamika Shukla to get jobs.

Basic education minister Satish Chand Dwivedi has already said if necessary, the department will request chief minister Yogi Adityanath to get a thorough probe done by STF or an external

agency. The state basic education department has already registered nine FIRs in as many districts on suspicion that proxy teachers were using the documents of one Anamika Shukla to obtain employment in KGBVs in different districts and were drawing salary accordingly.

Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) are residential upper primary schools (class 6 to 8) for girls in educationally backward blocks (EBBs) with rural female literacy below the national average.
