47,156 poor children allotted schools through RTE lottery

LUCKNOW: For Palak, 6, living in Sarvodaya Nagar locality going to school was a distant dream. But with the implementa­tion of the Right to Education policy, her dream came true and through this year’s lottery she got admission to Rani Laxmibai School.

State basic education minister Satish Dwivedi on Wednesday launched the lottery results of first lottery of RTE 12.1 (c) for the academic year 2020-21.

This year basic education department received 88,226 applicatio­ns from across Uttar Pradesh on the portal.

On BSA’s verificati­on, 71,203 applicatio­ns were reported to be complete and eligible for lottery.

From the verified applicatio­ns, 47,156 children were allotted schools across 75 districts of the state.

The top 5 districts with highest number of allotments are: Lucknow (8,784 forms), Varanasi (7,970), Kanpur city (3,121), Gautam Buddh Nagar (3,100) and Moradabad (1,846 forms).

The results of the lottery were published on the website by the basic education minister, Satish Chand Dwivedi in an online event on Wednesday.

He announced that financial aid of Rs. 5000 per child would be extended to RTE parents for books and school uniform after successful­ly completing admission process.

The minister also announced successful reimbursem­ent of Rs 5,1.44 crore to private unaided schools in lieu of RTE children studying in the schools in the previous financial year.

RightWalk Foundation facilitate­d child tracking on a sample data of 1200 RTE children across 12 districts using scientific randomizat­ion technique with the help of academic professors from Duke and Florida Universiti­es from US.

This was a primary research in which telephonic calls were made to the parents and data around their ward’s status in school was collected, said Samina Bano of the foundation. the
