In UP, 499 new cases, 14 more die; recovery rate reaches 60.72%

LUCKNOW: The tally of coronaviru­s cases in the state went up to 13,615 on Sunday with 499 more instances of the infection being reported and the death toll reached 399 with 14 more fatalities, according to official data.

Among the deaths reported in the last 24 hours , six were from Meerut, two each from Agra and Sambhal and one each from Bulandshah­r, Azamgarh, Rae

Bareli and Hardoi. Once again, western UP accounted for bulk of the fatalities — 11 out of 14.

Among the fresh Covid-19 cases, the maximum of 83 was reported from Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida), 30 from Ghaziabad and 27 each from Meerut and Jaunpur, among others.

394 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery in the last 24 hours.

“A total of 8268 people (60.72%) have recovered while 399 others lost their lives,” principal secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad said.

While 499 fresh cases were reported in the state, 394 patients were discharged from hospital after recovery in the last 24 hours, he said. Asha workers (accredited social health activists) screened 16.23 lakh migrant workers, he said.

Migrants constitute 26.6% of the total Covid-19 cases in the state.

“Till now, 3,626 migrant workers have tested positive out of the 1,10,883 samples tested,” said Dr Vikasendu Agrawal, state surveillan­ce officer in the health department. He said death audit was being done.

Additional chief secretary, home, Awanish Kumar Awasthi said 4,929 coronaviru­s infection cases were reported from the hot spots in various districts. The number of hotspots in the state had increased to 2,265 while health teams surveyed 9.85 lakh

houses and 58.37 lakh people residing in the hot spots, he added. As all the hot spots were sealed, only sanitation workers, police personnel and home delivery personnel were permitted to enter these areas, he said.

The district magistrate­s were directed to ensure delivery of essential items in the hot spots, he said. Doctors, nurses and para-medical staff were directed to take regular rounds in wards of Covid and non- Covid hospitals. They were told to communicat­e with the patients as well as their family members, he said.

All 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh have reported coronaviru­s infection cases till now. According to health department data, the caseload in prominent districts is: Agra (1038), Noida (997), Kanpur (705), Ghaziabad (631), Lucknow (596), Moradabad (294), Varanasi (282) and Prayagraj (147).
