30 deaths, 591 new Covid cases in UP

UPDATE State’s corona tally crosses 15K, Meerut accounts for 15 fatalities in 24 hrs, 9,139 patients discharged till now

LUCKNOW : Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday recorded 30 deaths and 591 fresh coronaviru­s cases, the steepest single-day spike on both counts, according to official data. While the death toll has now gone up to 465, the overall tally of infected patients stands at 15,181.

Fifteen deaths were reported in Meerut in 24 hours, four in Ghaziabad, three in Agra and one each in Noida, Varanasi, Rampur, Hapur, Bahraich, Gonda, Bhadohi and Mainpuri, a health department bulletin said.

Fifteen deaths were reported in Meerut in 24 hours, four in Ghaziabad, three in Agra and one each in Noida, Varanasi, Rampur, Hapur, Bahraich, Gonda, Bhadohi and Mainpuri, a health department bulletin said.

Among the fresh cases, 51 were from Noida, 44 from Meerut and 37 from Ghaziabad, according to the bulletin.

Till now, 9139 patients have been discharged across Uttar Pradesh after treatment and there are now 5,477 active cases in the state, the bulletin added. In Lucknow, nine fresh cases were reported on Wednesday and 64 on Tuesday.

Ever since it crossed the 11,000-mark on June 9, the state is reporting over 1,000 cases every 48 hours.

Uttar Pradesh’s first Covid-19 case was reported from Agra on

March 2. The state reached the unwelcome milestone of 1,000 cases, 49 days later on April 20 when the tally stood at 1,184. Eight days later, UP went past 2,000 cases on April 28 with the tally reading 2,053. It took another 10 days for the state to cross the 3,000-mark on May 8 when the tally stood at 3,214 cases.

Then, on May 15, the UP tally went up to 4,057.

After five days, the 5,000mark came up on May 20 and it reached the 6,000 mark on May 23. The state went past the 7,000mark on May 28 and the 8,000 mark on May 31.

The infection continued to spread rapidly as the state tally crossed 9,000 on June 4, the 10,000-mark on June 6, 11,000 on June 9 and 12,000 on June 11 when the Covid tally stood at 12,088 cases.

The tally reached 13,118 on June 13 and went up to 14,091 on June 15. It stood at 15,181 cases on Wednesday.
