New testing peak, steepest spike of 817 cases in UP

A record 17,221 samples tested in 24 hours

LUCKNOW: UP on Friday reported 817 new coronaviru­s cases, the highest in one day, and also tested a record 17,221 samples in the past 24 hours in labs across the state, according to official data. The state coronaviru­s tally is now 16,645, up from 15,785 on Thursday. The previous highest single-day spike was on Thursday when the state recorded 630 cases. The death toll went up to 507 with 19 more fatalities across the state. Among the 19 deaths, five were from Ghaziabad, four from Noida, three each from Agra and Kanpur, one each from Meerut, Bulandshah­r, Ambdekar Nagar and Banda, an official report said. Among the fresh cases of infection, the maximum 150 were reported from Noida followed by 46 from Kanpur, according to official data.

Meanwhile, four more areas of Lucknow were proposed as containmen­t zones. These are Ajay Nagar in Kamta, Manohar Nagar in Thakurganj, Virat Khand in Gomti Nagar and Rapti Enclave in Awadh Vihar.

Among the fresh cases of infection, the maximum 150 were reported from Noida followed by 46 from Kanpur, according to official data. So far, 9,995 patients have been discharged, including 358 in the last 24 hours.

The state has been reporting over 1,000 cases every 48 hours ever since it crossed the 11,000case mark on June 9.

Uttar Pradesh’s first Covid-19 case was reported from Agra on March 2. The state reached the unwelcome milestone of 1,000 cases, 49 days later on April 20 when the tally stood at 1,184. Eight days later, UP went past 2,000 cases on April 28 with the tally reading 2,053.

It took another 10 days for the state to cross the 3,000-mark on May 8 when the tally stood at 3,214 cases. Then, on May 15, the UP tally went up to 4,057. After five days, the 5,000-mark came up on May 20 and it reached the 6,000 mark on May 23.

The state went past the 7,000mark on May 28 and the 8,000 mark on May 31. The infection continued to spread rapidly as the state tally crossed 9,000 on June 4, the 10,000-mark on June 6, 11,000 on June 9 and 12,000 on June 11 when the Covid tally stood at 12,088 cases.

The tally reached 13,118 on June 13 and went up to 14,091 on June 15. It stood at 15,181 cases on Wednesday and 16,602 cases on Friday.
