UP tally reaches 17,237, toll 529

6,237 across state, 690 in Noida, 354 in Ghaziabad and 329 in Lucknow

LUCKNOW: UP on Saturday reported 592 fresh Covid cases taking the tally of infected patients to 17,237 while 22 fatalities raised the death toll to 529.Among the fresh cases , 65 were reported from Hapur, 55 from Kanpur, 41 from Noida and 40 from Ghaziabad in the last 24 hours. Among the deaths, five were from Meerut, two each from Kanpur, Ghaziabad, Hapur and Varanasi and one each from Prayagraj, Sambhal, Mathura, Muzaffarna­gar, Etawah, Mainpuri, Farrukhaba­d, Baghpat and Lucknow.

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh on Saturday reported 592 fresh coronaviru­s cases taking the tally of infected patients to 17,237 while 22 fatalities raised the death toll to 529, according to official data.

Among the fresh cases of Covid-19 infection, 65 were reported from Hapur, 55 from Kanpur, 41 from Noida and 40 from Ghaziabad in the last 24 hours.

Among the deaths, five were reported from Meerut, two each from Kanpur, Ghaziabad, Hapur and Varanasi and one each from Prayagraj, Sambhal, Mathura, Muzaffarna­gar, Etawah, Mainpuri, Farrukhaba­d, Baghpat and Lucknow.

The state has 6,237 active cases out of which a majority of 690 are in Noida and 354 in Ghaziabad. Lucknow has 329 active cases under treatment at present.

Uttar Pradesh’s first Covid-19 case was reported from Agra on March 2. The state reached the unwelcome milestone of 1,000 cases, 49 days later on April 20 when the tally stood at 1,184.

Eight days later, UP went past 2,000 cases on April 28 with the tally reading 2,053. It took another 10 days for the state to cross the 3,000-mark on May 8 when the tally stood at 3,214 cases.

Then, on May 15, the UP tally went up to 4,057. After five days, the 5,000-mark came up on May 20 and it reached the 6,000 mark

on May 23.

The state went past the 7,000mark on May 28 and the 8,000 mark on May 31.

The infection continued to spread rapidly as the state tally crossed 9,000 on June 4, the 10,000-mark on June 6, 11,000 on June 9 and 12,000 on June 11 when the Covid tally stood at 12,088 cases.

The tally reached 13,118 on June 13 and went up to 14,091 on June 15. It stood at 15,181 cases on June 17 and 16,645 cases on June 19. The tally went up to 17,237 cases on Saturday.
