Woman dies, 22 new cases in Lucknow

LUCKNOW: The state capital on Saturday reported the death of a 45-year-old coronaviru­s positive woman and 22 fresh cases of Covid-19 infection, including five women and five outsourced staff at the UP112 headquarte­rs.

The woman, a native of Farrukhaba­d district, was admitted to King George’s Medical University on June 17.

She had a thyroid problem. She went into respirator­y failure and died, said Dr Sudhir Singh, spokespers­on for the medical university.

Among the fresh cases, five each were reported from Alambagh and the UP 112 headquarte­rs, four from Indira Nagar, two from Rajajipura­m, and one each from Kakori, Fatima Hospital , Vivek Khand, Vinamra Khand, Telibagh and Kurmanchal Nagar. The fresh cases include cleaning staff at Fatima Hospital and two relatives of a man from Indira Nagar A-Block who had tested positive.

During the day, samples of 457 suspected cases were collected during the contact-tracing exercise in different areas of the city, said Dr Narendra Agrawal, chief medical officer of

Lucknow. He said 23 patients were discharged from hospitals after doctors declared them as recovered. They have been advised home quarantine.

Meanwhile, the condition of the resident doctor, who had tested positive at KGMU, is stable.

“The resident doctor was on isolation duty only. After the test report was positive, it was decided to shift the resident doctor to isolation,” said Dr Sudhir Singh, KGMU spokespers­on.

Portions of three private hospitals were closed for 24 hours after patients there tested positive for the coronaviru­s.
