LU students stage protest, demand cancellation of exams
LUCKNOW Students of Lucknow University affiliated to Samajwadi Chatra Sabha, the student wing of Samajwadi Party, staged a protest inside the varsity campus on Monday against the university’s decision to conduct examination from July 7.
The group demanded cancellation of the exams due to the corona outbreak.
The protesters also had a minor skirmish with police after which 10 of them were detained and taken to police lines. However, they were released later.
“Lucknow University administration is acting under the pressure of state government which is against the students.
They are playing with the lives of students by declaring exams in July amid the corona pandemic,” said one of the protesters. University spokesman Durgesh Srivastav said: “The protesters staged a protest at the gate of administrative building. The police teams deployed near the spot spoke to the students and acted accordingly.”
This is the second such protest by members of Samajwadi Party within a week.
Last week, a similar protest was held near Hazratganj crossing.
Lucknow University has announced to hold its exams from July 7 amid Covid-19. Several student groups, parents and even teachers had opposed the decision citing Covid-19 outbreak.
