‘Anti-CAA protest’: Congress leader held

LUCKNOW:: An office bearer of UP Congress Committee was arrested from his residence in Hazratganj on Monday evening allegedly due to his involvemen­t in anti-CAA protest. According to police sources, Shahnawaz Alam, chief of Congress minority cell in UP, was arrested by police team from Hazratganj police station and brought for questionin­g. “Police have found Alam having links with the violent protest in the state capital last year. He has been held for further questionin­g,” said the source. Assistant Commission­er of Police, Hazratganj, Abhay Mishra said,”Shahnawaz Alam was arrested on the basis of some findings in an ongoing investigat­ion. It would be too early to comment further on this.”Polive have also arrested another person, said to be linked to Shahnawaz in the same matter. Anti-CAA protest in Lucknow last year had turned violent leading to damage to public property.
