BSP always with central govt on national security issue: Maya

LUCKNOW:: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Monday said in the interest of the country her party always stood with the central government on issues related to defence and security, no matter which party was in power at the Centre.

Addressing a press conference in party’s national office in New Delhi, Mayawati said now when the BJP was in power at the center, the BSP was supporting it on the issue of border dispute with China.

“The central government is responsible for the security of the country and it is its constitutional responsibility as well to protect the territory of the country. If the Congress leadership thinks that the BSP should support it over the squabble with the BJP over the dispute with China, then it’s not possible. It’s not ideology of a true follower of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar,” she said.

Clarifying that she was not a spokesperson of the Congress or the BJP, Mayawati said the Congress leadership should stop alleging that BSP was playing in the hand of the BJP. When the Congress or the BJP is in power, they target the BSP with malicious allegations. “The people are aware of the facts,” she said.

Terming the allegations and counter allegations between the Congress and the BJP leaders over the border dispute unfortunate, she said issues like price hike of petroleum products, essential commodities and exploitation of the common people had been ignored.
