LUCKNOW : The state health department has decided to launch a statewide surveillan­ce drive to identify the people infected with coronaviru­s and create awareness among the masses for protection from infection.

On July 2 the drive will be launched in six districts of Meerut divisions- Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida), Ghaziabad, Meerut, Bulandshah­r, Hapur and Baghpat districts. The surveillan­ce drive will continue in the six districts till July 12. The surveillan­ce teams will visit each household to know the health condition of the family members and will prepare a profile of the members suffering from another disease. They will create awareness among the people for protection from coronaviru­s infection.

The focus will be on the people with influenza- like- illness (ILI) and severe acute respirator­y infections (SARI). The ILI and SARI patients have acute respirator­y infection with fever and cough. The doctors will assess if the patients are infected with coronaviru­s. Before leaving the house, the team will put an S mark on the door or the gate mentioning the date of the visit. They will also paste a sticker highlighti­ng the Covid guidelines, district and state helpline numbers.

The surveillan­ce drive would be launched in the remaining divisions from July 5 to 17. The aim of the drive was to create awareness among the people, protect them from infection and check spread of coronaviru­s in the state, Prasad said.
