LUCKNOW A student of a private institution that ‘closed down’ some six years ago is among the 10 toppers of the district.

The boy scored 90.50%, obtaining 543 out of 600 marks, to secure the 10th position in the UP Board high school examination.

District inspector of schools Mukesh Singh said that Sterling Public School, Hind Nagar, Lucknow, had shifted from one location to a new place. According to the rules, if a school shifts to a new place, it has to seek affiliation afresh from the Board.

“Sterling Public School violated it by not applying for a fresh affiliation of the new premises and instead used old documents to run the school,” Singh said adding that the matter has been reported to the Board.

“On December 26, 2018, I had written to the board to cancel the affiliation of the school, as it had not sought affiliation after shifting to a new place,” he said. Singh said a reminder will be sent to the Board again.

A senior UP board official, who did not wish to be identified, said that going by rules, action in this case, will be initiated against the school management which flouted norms. “Students are not at fault in this particular case, as the matter pertains to paper work not done by the school,” the official said. School manager Naval Pandey said that initially the school was running in a rented building. The owner wanted the school building to be vacated. “With no option left we shifted to a new place which is about 3 km away from the earlier building,” he said.

Pandey said they are in the process of completing all necessary formalities with the education department. He said that this year, nearly 80 students appeared in Class 10 and 50 in Class 12 UP Board examinations. In previous years too, students continued to appear in board examinations.

The school manager said instead of lauding the fact that a boy from the school has secured the 10th rank in the district, the institution is being targeted by the education department officials.
