Banda villagers proud of police officer’s courage

LUCKNOW:The natives of Mahewa village in Banda district mourned the killing of deputy superinten­dent of police, Devendra Kumar Mishra who was leading the police team to nab notorious gangster Vikas Dubey in Kanpur Dehat.

Shiv Kumar Mishra, a resident of the village, said the locals were proud of Devendra Mishra as he challenged the criminals and died in action. The state government should order a probe into who informed Vikas Dubey about the police raid on Bikru village in Kanpur Dehat, he said.

After receiving news of his death, Devendra’s relatives left the village for Kanpur. Gram pradhan Dharam Pal said younger brother Rajiv Mishra worked in the postal department while another brother Ramdeep Mishra was a former gram pradhan. The local police station informed them about the killing of Devendra Mishra, he said.

Mishra often visited the village with his two daughters Vaishnavi, Vaishardi and wife Astha. He used to meet the villagers and participat­ed in social functions, the gram pradhan said.

The police personnel who were killed during the shootout included sub inspector Nebulal of Handia area of Prayagraj.

A report from Prayagraj said Nebulal’s wife Shyama Devi and sons Arvind and Himanshu left for Kanpur soon after they were informed of the incident.

His kin said Neebulal spoke to his wife on Thursday night and took informatio­n about well being of children and other members of the family.
