AAG’s office prepares 24-point pro forma for investigating officers
LUCKNOW: For effective prosecution in criminal cases, the additional advocate general’s office has prepared a 24-point pro forma seeking details of criminals from investigating officers.
Additional advocate general Vinod Kumar Shahi has written a letter to additional chief secretary (home) Awanish Awasthi, apprising him of the new pro forma. This is part of the exercise undertaken by the AAG’s office in Lucknow high court for effective prosecution of accused in criminal cases.
“Often government lawyers face problem in courts due to insufficient information provided by investigating officers. To avoid this, a 24 –point pro forma has been prepared to seek details of accused,” said Vinod Kumar Shahi, additional advocate general. “Information provided in a casual manner by investigating officers makes case weak against the accused,” added Shahi.
“A letter has been written to additional chief secretary (home) for further action in this regard,” pointed out Shahi.
The pro forma will be made available on the UP Police website. All station house officers and investigating officers will be able to download it from the website.
According to the new pro forma, the investigating officers will have to inform about the criminal’s history, arms and other things seized from accused, details of victims, arms and vehicles used in crime, number of co-accused and other such details. The investigating officers will have to provide this 24-point information to the office of government advocate, Lucknow high court. The AAG’s office has also asked to carry out training of cops associated with the department’s legal cell in districts under the Lucknow high court’s jurisdiction and train them in checking list of cases and orders on the high court’s website.
