Six deaths, 165 new cases in Lko
UPDATE Sports minister, another politician with minister status test positive; 55 more containment zones recommended in state capital

LUCKNOW: Six patients undergoing Covid-19 treatment died in Lucknow in the last 24 hours even as 165 more people, including minister of state (independent charge) for sports and youth welfare Upendra Tiwari and another politician with minister status, tested positive in the state capital where 55 more containment zones have been recommended, taking their total number to 379.
A 55-year-old owner of a medical store in Bhootnath Market died at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) on Saturday night. His sample was tested at a private pathology lab after influenza-like symptoms about a week ago and he was admitted to KGMU’s isolation ward on July 4.
“The patient had thyroid. He went into respiratory failure due to infection and, unfortunately, died,” said KGMU spokesperson Dr Sudhir Singh. He was on ventilator support for the past three days. His son, who also tested positive, is on oxygen support at KGMU. Six members of his family have been tested till now.
The second death was of an 83-year-old man from Indiranagar away on Sunday. He was admitted to hospital on June 24.
“He had high blood pressure and went into respiratory failure,” said Dr Singh.
The third death was of a 67-year-old man from Basa Mallawan in Hardoi. He was admitted to KGMU on Sunday and died after some time.
“The patient had diabetes. He went into shock and acute respiratory distress syndrome due to infection,” said Dr Singh.
The fourth death was of a 47-year-old man from Faizabad Road. He succumbed during treatment at the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences on Sunday. He was admitted with severe pneumonia and his first report was negative, but the second one was positive.
The fifth death was of a 35-year-old man from Chinhat, who was brought to RMLIMS with breathlessness on Saturday night and he died shortly afterwards. The positive sample report came after his death.
The sixth death was of a 58-year-old deputy superintendent of police (DySP) from Hardoi.
Meanwhile, Upendra Tiwari, minister of state for sports and youth affairs, tested positive for coronavirus during the day. “My report came positive for COVID-19 and I am being treated by doctors. Those who came in contact in past ten days should get themselves checked,” tweeted the minister. Rakesh Chaubey ‘Bhola’, the minister’s representative, said, “Tiwari felt feverish almost two days back and his Covid-19 test was done on Saturday.” “The report on Sunday morning stated that Tiwari has tested positive for Covid-19,” he said, according to PTI.
A politician with minister status Raghuraj Singh also tested positive. His sample was given at RMLIMS and tested on TrueNat machine. He is admitted to PGI.
Among the 165 fresh cases of Covid-19 infection in Lucknow, there were 17 from Jopling Road, including seven of a family, and nine staff members of GVK EMRI that runs an ambulance service in the state, said a press statement from the office of the Lucknow CMO. “During the day nine patients were discharged,” said Yogesh Raghuvanshi, spokesperson for the CMO’s office.
