LUCKNOW:In a first, two students of Uttar Pradesh scored 100 percent marks in the CBSE Class 12 examination, results of which were declared on Monday.

Lucknow girl Divyanshi Jain, a student of Lucknow’s Navyug Radiance Senior Secondary School, scored 600 out of 600 marks while Tushar Singh, a student of Delhi Public School in Bulandshshr, scored 500 marks out of 500 to get 100 percent marks in the exams.

Both the 18-year-old students didn’t lose a single mark in any of their subjects, a record at least for Uttar Pradesh.

“Though, the board did not release merit list this year because some exams were cancelled due to Covid-19, no student in Uttar Pradesh has scored 100% marks in all subjects in the past,” confirmed CBSE regional officer (RO), Prayagraj, Shweta Arora.

“This is unbelievable. I am elated and surprised at the same time,” said jubilant Divyanshi, sporting a smile while still coming to terms with her outstanding achievement. “I have never heard of anyone scoring 100% marks ever so I first thought that somebody is playing prank on me when a teacher from my school informed me about the marks over phone.”

Tushar first thought of a typing error when he first saw his marks. “I refreshed the computer screen after seeing the result. I believed the marks only after a school staff called up and confirmed this to me,” said Tushar.

Both Divyanshi and Tushar are students of Humanities stream.

Divyanshi scored a 100 in English, Sanskrit, History, Geography, Insurance and Economics. Tushar scored full

marks in English, History, Geography, Political Science, Physical Education and Geography.

“I don’t think one should get full marks in English because no letter or essay can be perfect,” said Tushar, who didn’t go for any coaching.

Both of them appeared for the exam of all subjects, except Geography, which was cancelled due to Covid-19. They were awarded a 100 in geography based on the average marks of

their internal exam and the average marks scored in the five subjects they got in the board.

Tushar and Divyanshi were also among the toppers in Class 10 at their school and both had scored 97% marks.

The second child of a businessman father RK Jain and a homemaker mother Seema Jain, Divyanshi gave the credit of her success to her parents and teachers for the success.

Her elder sister is completing her graduation from a city college.

Tushar is eldest son of two professor parents, OP Singh and Kiran Bharti.

“My teachers guided me throughout the years and I was able to follow a systematic routine due to my parents. Both these factors allowed me to concentrate on my studies and score good marks,” said Divyanshi.

“I also made it a point to focus on revision and mock tests that helped me score better,” she added. She also took ample sleep and followed a healthy routine.

A history buff Divyanshi likes to read books and spend time with her family. “I want to study further in history. I have applied for admission in BA hons in History from Delhi University. I also have plans for doing research on the subject,” said Divyanshi

On the other hand, Tushar plans to join a BA course and prepare for civil services exam.

Divyanshi, along with her parents, met deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma. In the brief interaction, the minister congratulated Divyanshi for her success and spoke about her plans for future.

“I am amazed at Divyanshi’s achievement. We were confident that she will top but the marks she got are beyond our expectations,” said B Singh, principal. “She has always been a bright student. She has made a record,” she added.

Sudhir Halwasia, manager of the school, said, “I am amazed at Divyanshi’s achievement. She has done us proud.”

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath took to twitter to congratulate all successful students of CBSE class 12. “The exam results are output of your hard work and dedication. May you be successful in your future endeavour,” tweeted Yogi.
