282 more test positive as city leads in active cases

LUCKNOW: The state capital reported 282 new cases of Covid-19 infection in the last 24 hours, according to official data. This was the highest number of cases in any district of Uttar Pradesh on the day. With this, the number of active cases in Lucknow has gone up to 2,719, the maximum in UP.

Chief medical officer Dr Narendra Agarwal said, “Currently, Lucknow has the highest number of active cases in the state. That’s why we have turned four areas of Ashiana, Sarojini Nagar, Ghazipur and Indiranaga­r into containmen­t zones. We hope to control the spread in the next one week.”

“We have around 470 containmen­t zones in the city. We are visiting the households in these zones, making people aware of Covid-19 and testing them. We are confident Covid will be controlled soon with aggressive testing and contact tracing done by our staff,” he said.

Covid cases were found in the areas of Indiranaga­r, Aishbagh, Thakurganj, Itaunja, Aminabad, Rajajipura­m, Alambagh, Gomti Nagar, Sitapur Road, Lalkuan, Neelmatha, Daliganj, Rajendra Nagar, Nirala Nagar, Mahanagar, Rae Bareli Road and Jankipuram, the CMO said.

“This shows the virus prevalent in all these areas. We are going to create containmen­t zones there,” he added. Among the fresh cases, Lucknow was followed by Kanpur with 174 , Varanasi with 122 and Gautam Buddha Nagar with 107 cases.

TRADERS SHUT YAHIYAGANJ MKT FOR A WEEK

Local traders on Monday decided to voluntaril­y close the Yahiyaganj market for a week to break the coronaviru­s chain. Yahiyaganj is the state, as well as the city’s biggest wholesale market. Sandeep Bansal, president of Uttar Pradesh Udyog Vyapar Mandal, said , “The traders have taken the lead in breaking the coronaviru­s chain. Everyone must learn from them now. We are ready to sacrifice business for another week for the sake of the society.”
