SIT seeks asset details of Vikas Dubey, 56 others

LUCKNOW:The three-member special investigat­ion team (SIT), set up to probe different aspects of Kanpur ambush case, has sought details of the assets of slain gangster Vikas Dubey and 56 others, including his 19 kin and 37 gang members, from six developmen­t authoritie­s of four districts and local administra­tion of three districts.

The state government had on July 11 had constitute­d the SIT. Headed by additional chief secretary, excise, Sanjay Bhoosreddy, the team has two senior IPS officers namely ADG Hari Ram Sharma and DIG J Ravinder Goud as its members. The SIT has to submit its findings to the government by July 31.

A senior police official privy of the developmen­t said the SIT head had written letters to developmen­t authoritie­s of Kanpur, Lucknow, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddh Nagar seeking details of any land allotments in the names of Vikas Dubey and 56 others in the list.

He said similar letters were also sent to local administra­tions of three districts including Kanpur, Kanpur Dehat and Lucknow seeking details of allotments of any contracts or tenders to Dubey and others.

Sharing further details, the cop said the letters were also sent to chief executive officers of three authoritie­s, including New Okhla Industrial Developmen­t Authority, Greater Noida Industrial Developmen­t Authority and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Authority of Gautam Buddh Nagar district to find out if Dubey, his relatives or his gang members had bought land or were involved in some business activities there.

Similar letters were written to Lucknow Developmen­t Authority, Kanpur Developmen­t Authority and Ghaziabad Developmen­t Authority seeking the same details, he added.

The official said the SIT had also asked the officials concerned to examine whether some contracts or work rendered by the authoritie­s and local administra­tion in the past had been outsourced to them or not.

He said the officials concerned of the six developmen­t authoritie­s and three district administra­tions were asked to share the details by Monday.

He said the name of Vikas Dubey’s aide Jai Bajpai, who allegedly handled the gang’s finances and investment­s, was also included in the list.

Gangster Vikas Dubey and five of his gang members were killed in separate police encounters between July 3 and 10 while 15 others have been arrested so far. Dubey was gunned down in encounter when he allegedly tried to flee while being brought to Kanpur on the morning of July 10 after he was dramatical­ly arrested from Mahakaal temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh a day before.
