6 deaths, 449 new cases in Lucknow, 580 discharged

Indira Nagar, Alambagh, Gomti Nagar, Qaiserbagh and Chinhat among worst-affected areas in the last 24 hours

LUCKNOW: The state capital on Sunday reported 449 fresh Covid-19 infection cases, the highest in a day, and six deaths, including two outstation patients, according to official data.

Among the fresh cases, 22 were reported from Indira Nagar, 21 from Alambagh, 20 each from Gomtinagar and Qaiserbagh and 17 from Chinhat.

“Lucknow is reporting higher number of cases every day. One reason could be droplet infection which spreads more in the monsoon than other seasons. Hence, it is necessary to wear mask and maintain a distance when going out,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Associatio­n of Internatio­nal Doctors.

As many as 580 patients, the maximum in a day so far, were discharged on Sunday and the number exceeded the new cases.

Among the fatalities, a 58-yearold man from Alambagh died at Lokbandhu hospital and the family alleged medical negligence. The son said the patient had breathing difficulty when he was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday. He was shifted to ICU, but his condition kept deteriorat­ing, he alleged.

“On Sunday afternoon, when I reached hospital I saw no one was attending to him properly,” he claimed.

Doctors said the man was in need of a higher centre of Covid care but died while being shifted.

“The patient was being shifted to a higher centre but he collapsed suddenly,” said chief medical officer, Lucknow, Dr RP Singh, who rushed to the hospital after he got a call from the family.

A medical staffer fainted while packing body of the patient who died at Lok Bandhu hospital. A doctor came forward and, after wearing, PPE kit packed the body.

A 65-year-old man from Katra, Qaiserbagh, died at the corona

ward of KGMU on Sunday. He was admitted on July 23.

“The patient suffered from hypothyroi­dism and high blood pressure. He experience­d respirator­y failure,” said KGMU spokespers­on Dr Sudhir Singh.

A 49-year-old resident of Jaiprakash Nagar in Alambagh died during the day at KGMU. “Admitted on July 25, the patient had acute respirator­y distress syndrome and he died due to pneumoniti­s,” said Dr Singh.

A 65-year-old man from Chak Road in Lucknow also died during treatment at KGMU.

Another 65-year-old man, resident of Suratgarh in Sultanpur who was admitted on July 17, died during treatment at KGMU. A 65-year-old man from Ambedkarna­gar, who was admitted to Dr RML Institute of Medical Sciences here, also died during the day. There were also reports about the deaths of a 62 year old from Thakurganj, a 70-year-old from Alambagh at a private medical college on Kursi Road and another man at private medical college in Dubagga but no official statement was available on these fatalities.

Among the fresh cases, 22 were reported from Indira Nagar, 21 from Alambagh, 20 each from Gomtinagar and Qaiserbagh and 17 from Chinhat.

Besides, 12 people each from Talkatora, Bazar Khala, Aliganj and Vikas Nagar tested positive as did 11 each from Thakurganj and Krishnanag­ar.

Ten new cases were reported from Naka, nine each from Sarojinina­gar, Aminabad and Mahanagar, eight each from Hazratganj and Saadatganj. There were seven new cases each in Chowk, Rae Bareli Road, Husainganj, five in Jankipuram, four in Madiaon, and two each in Gomti Nagar Extension, Manak Nagar and Sushant Golf City.
