Yogi asks SPs, DMs to be alert for festivals, bhumi pujan

LUCKNOW : Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday directed all the superinten­dents of police and district magistrate­s to be on alert in view of the festivals of Bakrid (Eid al-Azha), Rakshaband­han, ‘bhumi pujan’ for Ram temple in Ayodhya and Independen­ce Day.

Strict vigil should be maintained on anti-social elements and action taken to maintain law and order, he said.

The state police have stepped up vigil in all UP districts in view of VVIPs visits for Ram temple foundation laying ceremony in Ayodhya on August 5.

Laying stress on the Covid protocol and sanitisati­on, the chief minister said people should celebrate Bakrid at home and officers should talk to clerics to request them to issue an appeal in this regard. People should also celebrate Rakshaband­han at home, he said.

He was holding a video conference with police and administra­tive officers.

No programme should be organised at public places, he

added.

About Raksbhaban­dhan, the chief minister said district administra­tion officers should ensure that the women faced no problem in movement. Incidents of crime against women should be checked, he said.

Meanwhile, officials said senior police officers of Additional Director General (ADG), Inspector General (IG) and deputy IG (DIG) ranks had been deputed in nine sensitive districts sharing border with Ayodhya and located on India-Nepal porous border.

There were also reports of alert from central intelligen­ce agencies about terror activities between August 5 and 15 but the UP police top authoritie­s did not confirmed any such input.

UP Director General of Police (DGP) Hitesh Chandra Awasthy’s order dated July 28 stated that the state police had to adopt zero error policy to ensure no law and order problem takes place and the VVIP event passes off peacefully.

Police had been asked to take special precaution­s in six districts sharing border with Ayodhya and three districts located on India-Nepal border.

The six districts sharing border with Ayodhya are Barabanki, Amethi, Ambedkgarn­agar, Basti, Gonda and Sultanpur while three districts located on Nepal border are Bahraich, Siddarthna­gar and Maharajgan­j.

“Stern directions to intensify vigilance and security to ensure no untoward incident happens during this period have been given to officials concerned,” said state police officials.

The DGP directed that ADG prosecutio­n Ashutosh Pandey will take care of preparatio­ns in Amethi, ADG Traffic Ashok Kumar Singh in Gonda, ADG Provincial Armed Constabula­ry, central zone, Ram in Bahraich, Inspector General (IG) Fire Services Vijay Prakash in Sultanpur, IG DGP headquarte­rs Piyush Mordia in Ambedkarna­gar, IG Basti range AK Rai in Basti, IG Police recruitmen­t and promotion board Vijay Bhushan in Barabanki, DIG Police Training College Unnao Chandra Prakash-II in Mahrajganj and DIG Administra­tion at DGP headquarte­rs RK Bhardwaj in Siddarthna­gar.

The DGP has asked these officials to get into work since Wednesday evening to ensure complete preparedne­ss for the VVIPs visits and upcoming festivals. The officials had been asked to camp in these districts till the morning of August 6.

They said all district police chiefs had been asked to intensify vigilance at market places, bus stations, religious places and other crowded areas. They said the directions had also been issued to carry out regular checking drives to keep check on movement of suspicious people.
