UP Covid tally crosses 77K mark

3,570 new cases, 33 deaths

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh’s tally of Covid-19 infection cases reached 77,334 on Wednesday with 3,570 more people testing positive for the coronaviru­s across the state, according to official data. During the same period, 33 patients died and the cumulative count of fatalities went up to 1,530.

The Covid-19 tally includes 29,997 active cases, 45,807 patients who have been discharged and the 1,530 deaths.

Among the fresh cases, Lucknow reported 262, Kanpur 260, Gorakhpur 177, Bareilly 162, Prayagraj 150 and Moradabad 144, according to health department data. Five deaths each were reported from Lucknow and Kanpur, three from Jhansi and two from Basti. One death each was reported from Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Gautam Buddha Nagar,

Hapur, Barabanki, Ayodhya, Saharanpur, Shahjahanp­ur, Muzaffarna­gar, Siddharthn­agar, Bijnor, Kannauj, Etawah, Rae Bareli, Shamli, Pratapgarh, Hamirpur and Ambedkarna­gar.

The first Covid-19 infection case in Uttar Pradesh was reported from Agra on March 2. Since then, the tally has crossed the 77,000 mark in 149 days. As many as 53,049 cases have been reported in July alone. This is 68.5% of the state’s total Covid count. The state’s Covid tally was 24,285 on July 1. The grim milestone of 1,000 cases was crossed on April 20, about 49 days after the first case was reported.

The total count was above 10,000 cases on June 6. It crossed 20,000 cases on June 25 and 30,000 on July 8. It stood at 41,471 on July 15, 53,598 on July 21, 60,771 on July 24, 66,988 on July 26 and 70,493 on July 27. It crossed the 77,000 mark on July 29.
