With 51 more deaths, UP’s Covid toll reaches 2,120

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh on Monday recorded 51 more fatalities due to Covid-19, pushing the death toll due to the disease to 2,120. The infection tally climbed to 1,26,722 with 4,197 fresh cases, said officials.

The number of patients discharged from hospitals after treatment was 76,724 while 47,878 were active cases in the state.

During the day, Kanpur reported the maximum deaths (9); Prayagraj, Bareilly, and Gorakhpur 4 each; Lucknow, Sultanpur, Mathura, Amroha, Moradabad 2 each; Varanasi and Bahraich 3; one each in Jhansi, Jaunpur, Ghaziabad, Azamgarh, Bulandshah­r, Hapur, Gonda, Mirzpur, Bijnor, Pratapgarh, Rae Bareli, Baghpat, Farrukhaba­d and Banda, according to the state health department data.

Meanwhile, the maximum cases were reported in Lucknow (629), followed by Kanpur (269), Gorakhpur (255), Prayagraj (223), Aligarh (104), Bareilly (197), Sultanpur (161) and Varanasi (148).

“The state has a death rate of 1.67% while the recovery rate is 60.54%,” said Dr Abhishek

Shukla, secretary general, Associatio­n of Internatio­nal Doctors.

The first 1,000 cases (1,184) came up on April 20, which was 49 days since the first case reported (March 2). On June 9, UP crossed the 11,000 mark (11,335 cases) and since then every 48 hours the

fresh case count goes beyond one thousand.

On August 2, the infection count was 92,921, on August 4 1,00,310, August 5 1,04,388, August 6 1,08,974, August 7 1,13,378, on August 8 1,18,038, August 9 1,22,609 and on August 10 1,26,722.
