Over 5K fresh cases, 59 deaths in UP

Total number of cases rises to 1,31,852, death toll due to the virus 2,176

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday recorded 5,130 fresh coronaviru­s cases, taking the tally to 1,31,852 since the first Covid-19 infection was reported in the state on March 2, according to official data.

Besides, 59 more patients died in the past 24 hours as the total count of fatalities in the state went up to 2,176. The state’s coronaviru­s tally reached 1,31,852 from 1,18,038 in just 48 hours, as there were 48,998 active cases on Tuesday against 47,878 on Monday.

Among the fresh cases, the highest number (831) was reported from Lucknow whereas 252 cases were reported from Prayagraj, 248 from Kanpur, 227 from Basti, 198 from Bareilly, 201 from Gorakhpur, 169 from Varanasi, 150 from Ballia, 116 from Barabanki, 101 each from Ghaziabad and Deoria, 99 each from Kushinagar and Saharanpur, 92 each from Sultanpur and Siddharth Nagar, 89 from Gautam Buddha Nagar, 83 from Shahjahanp­ur and 81 from Pilibhit.

Two cases were reported from Hathras, four from Hapur, five from Hamirpur, six from Mahoba, seven from Lalitpur, eight from Banda, 11 each from Badaun and Baghpat, 14 from Unnao, 15 each from Sharavsti, Kasganj, Shamli, Sambhal and 16 from Auraiya.

The 59 deaths were reported from Meerut, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Moradabad, Deoria, Azamgarh, Shahjahanp­ur, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Sultanpur, Unnao, Kannauj, Sambhal, Bahraich, Muzaffarna­gar, Mainpuri, Sonbhadra, Paratapgar­h, Lakhimpur Kheri, Rae Bareli, Fatehpur, Kanpur Dehat and Banda districts.

The highest fatality (12) was reported from Lucknow followed by five in Kanpur, four each in Prayagraj and Deoria, three each in Varanasi, Meerut and Sonbhadra districts. The first 1,000 cases (1,184) came up on April 20, 49 days after the first case was reported (March 2) and on August 10 1,26,722.

Additional chief secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad said the state conducted a record 1,01,039 samples tests on Monday, taking the total tally of tests in Uttar Pradesh to 33, 14, 435. Prasad said, out of the 48,998 active cases in the state, 20,818 were in home isolation, 1,533 admitted to private hospitals and 197 in the level one facility establishe­d in hotels.

The state government had establishe­d 61,794 Covid help desks in government offices, hospitals and industrial units. The help desks had identified 6.36 lakh people with coronaviru­s infection symptoms and their samples had been sent for laboratory test, he said.
