At present, corona patients are being treated in the IDH wing of the medical university. The upcoming COVID-19 facility at the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation (DPMR) was inspected by senior officials of the state government on Tuesday. The building will have 200 beds with oxygen support and Covid patients will be given all facilities under one roof, he said. “Renovation is underway and the facility will soon be ready. Our key focus is on Covid-19,” he said at the press conference via video conferencing. Asked about the medical staff getting infected, the V-C, who took charge on Monday, said: “Safety at work has to be of high standards with correct use of safety gear.” The university has tested over three lakh Covid-19 samples till now in the microbiology lab. “We wish to put all departments at par in terms of excellence, including those that have not picked up, such as paediatric, orthopaedic and geriatric medicine,” he added. “Facilities for non-Covid patients too will be increased, including manpower at trauma centre. We are talking to the state government for additional manpower that we need,” said the V-C.
