AGRA: A BJP MLA was allegedly manhandled by policemen, including the station officer, at Gonda police station of Aligarh on Wednesday morning.

MLA from Iglas, Rajkumar Sahyogi, alleged that he was manhandled by incharge Anuj Saini at the police station where he went to protest against a case filed against a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) member.

The MLA alleged that his clothes were torn by cops. The allegations were denied by incharge Gonda police station who said the MLA abused and hit him at the police station.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath, meanwhile, has asked DGP HC Awasthy to transfer ASP (rural) Aligarh out of district immediately and place under suspension the incharge of Gonda police station.

An official spokesman said the CM has asked the DGP to send a recommendation to the state government for posting another officer as ASP (rural) in the district. Spokesman said the DGP has asked the IG zone of Aligarh to submit a detailed report about the incident by Thursday.

According to the MLA, it all started on August 2 when VHP member, Rohit Varshney and his brother, were beaten up by a man identified as Salim and his aides over a property dispute. A case of assault was filed against Salim but a few days ago, a cross FIR was also filed in the case, the MLA said, alleging that when he went to the police station to protest the case lodged against Varshney, the three policemen roughed him up.

“The BJP MLA has been beaten up by cops at the police station and we have taken up the matter with the district magistrate and the SSP Aligarh. A complaint against the station officer has been lodged,” said Vivek Saraswat, city unit president of BJP.
