ACMO Jung died fighting Covid like a true warrior

VARANASI: Additional chief medical officer (ACMO) Dr Jung Bahadur, 61, who died in Varanasi on Wednesday after testing positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday, was an affable and efficient doctor who was looking after the management of quarantine facilities for doctors working in Covid-19 wards at different government hospitals in the district since March.

He was tested positive for Covid on Tuesday.

After the outbreak of corona in Varanasi in March, Dr Bahadur worked tirelessly for several hours daily. He personally inspected each quarantine facility at the hotels for the doctors several times. He ensured sanitizati­on of the rooms in the quarantine facility every day. He ensured that the staff who cooked food for the doctors at quarantine facility took all preventive measures to avoid corona infection. He used to call up doctors who worked in Covid ward and also asked about their health and well being. He used to follow all preventive measures while doing his official duties. “Dr Jung was a wonderful human being. He was always ready to help patients. He used to listen to his colleagues and subordinat­es patiently and was always ready to help them,” said Dr Sanjay Rai, ACMO.

“While managing quarantine facilities for doctors, he ensured that they get all necessary things, including food, on time. In case of a complaint, he used to get them addressed on priority basis,” recalled Dr Rai.

District health and education officer, Varanasi, Rajesh Kumar Sharma, who worked closely with Dr Jung, is also deeply saddened by his demise. “He was hard working man known for dischargin­g his duties in a committed way. I am deeply saddened.”

Chief medical officer, Dr VB Singh, said, “His family will get Rs 50 lakh as part of insurance. It will be ensured that his PPF is released as early as possible. A member of his family will get government job.”

Bahadur took ill five days back. He was admitted to Sir Sundar Lal Hospital on August 9 after he complained of breathing problem. At the SSL, he tested positive for Covid-19. He died on Wednesday.

He is survived by his wife Indravati (53), his sons Yadhuveer (33) and Ranbir Rava (25) and daughters Ritu (30), Shweta (28), Preeti (26) and Muskan (22).
