40 abandoned vehicles found in Charbagh’s parking lot

LUCKNOW At least 40 abandoned two-wheelers were found in a parking lot outside Charbagh Railway Station here on Thursday during checking drive carried out by the Government Railway Police (GRP) as part of the drive to intensify vigil before Independence Day, said police.

The officials said the majority of owners/claimants of these abandoned vehicles had not approached the parking lot operators in last six months.

A GRP official said the details related to the abandoned vehicles had been shared with the Lucknow police commissionerate officials as the vehicles are suspected to be stolen ones or used in different types of crime.

“We are preparing a list of vehicles’ registration and chasis numbers to track their real owners and ascertain why they had been abandoned,” he added.

The official said it was not the first time when vehicles had been found abandoned at the Charbagh parking lot.

He said the verification of abandoned vehicles had helped crack some criminal cases and unearthed vehicle lifting gangs in the past.

In some incidents, the vehicle owners have died in any accident or fallen victim to any crime in the past, he added.

He said the parking lot operators had also been asked to set-up CCTV cameras, list down vehicle owners’ contact number and other details while allowing parking of vehicles.

He said listing out details before allowing parking of vehicles will somehow help end this trend.
