Amid corona, the youth go virtual on I-Day

-

LUCKNOW : Holding online recitals of the national anthem and patriotic songs besides poetry sessions, the youth took the virtual route to celebrate the 74th Independence Day in corona times on Saturday.

Varun Yadav, a student of Lucknow University, and his classmates organised an online poetry session where participants recited their poems.

“In the past few years, we used to organise poetry sessions at some place in the city but because it was not possible this time, so we opted to hold it over zoom meetings,” said Yadav.

More than 40 participants joined the session and around a dozen of them recited their poems.

Durgesh Tripathi, a former LU student, organised a online gathering to sing the national anthem on the occasion. “Close to 80 people joined us and we all sang the national anthem together to mark the day,” he said.

The idea for the gathering came during one of the online sessions we organised during the lockdown,” Tripathi added.

Similar meetings were also organised by various citizen groups in the city. Hardeep

Singh, a research scholar, organised one such meeting for his grandparents and their friends.

“My grandparents have friends in various parts of the city. The meeting allowed them to meet one another and celebrate the occasion,” said Singh.

Meanwhile, flag hoisting was also held as in previous years by various departments inside the Lucknow University.
