KGMU V-C AMONG 620 NEW CASES

INFECTION TALLY 20,387 KGMU vice-chancellor among fresh Covid positive cases

LUCKNOW: The vice-chancellor of the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) was among 620 people who tested positive for Covid-19 here on Friday. With this, Lucknow’s infection tally rose to 20,387.

The state capital also recorded 15 more deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll due to the virus to 261, according to the health department.

LUCKNOW :The vice-chancellor of the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) was among 620 people who tested positive for Covid-19 here on Friday. With this, Lucknow’s infection tally rose to 20,387.

The state capital also recorded 15 more deaths in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll due to the virus to 261, according to the health department.

“I have no symptoms, just home isolated,” said vice-chancellor Lt Gen B Puri, PVSM VSM (retd).

“The vice-chancellor got his sample tested after his driver and another staff tested positive. His report came positive. There are no symptoms and he is healthy,” said Dr Sudhir Singh, spokespers­on, KGMU, in a press statement.

The V-C appealed that those who came in his contact recently should take medical advice. Over 100 people, including four senior faculty members, over two-dozen nurses and a dozen other staff members, have tested positive on the KGMU campus so far.

Two doctors from the Civil Hospital also tested positive. “Till now, 55 staff members have tested positive in our hospital,” said Dr Ashutosh Dubey, medical superinten­dent, Civil Hospital.

So far, 12,311 patients availed home isolation facility in Lucknow,

of which 7,301 had recovered. The number of patients discharged was 13,557 while 6,569 were active cases under treatment.

Of the total 20,387 Covid positive cases, 12,322 (60%) were reported in August itself. On August 1, there were 8,340 cases, on August 7 the figure rose to 1,512, August 14 15,981 and on August 21 the state capital had 20,387 cases.

During the day, cases were reported from Ashiana 17, Indira Nagar 29, Alambagh 15, Thakurganj, 19, Talkatora 16, Hasanganj 22, Chinhat 17, Gomti Nagar 33, Mahanagar 18, Hazratganj 23, Madiaon 26, Rae Bareli road 29, Aliganj 19, Chowk 27, Cantt 22, Jankipuram 11, Krishnanag­ar 24, Sarojinina­gar 17, Vikas Nagar 11 and Dubagga eight.

Among those who died on Friday included a 50-year-old woman from Bharatpuri in Lucknow, who was admitted to hospital on August 20.

“She had diabetes and died due to acute respirator­y distress syndrome,” said Dr Sudhir Singh, spokespers­on, KGMU.

A 27-year-old woman from Jarigaon in Hardoi, a 11-year-old boy from Unnao also died at the corona ward of the KGMU.

The boy was admitted on August 19. “The patient suffered generalise­d anasarca. He died of cardiopulm­onary arrest,” said Dr Singh.
