I miss school, my friends & old times

UNLOCKING THE LOCKDOWN

- NAMESHA JASHNANI

There is famous quote by writer Paulo Coelho, “Do something instead of killing time because time is killing you.” It actually made me think and rethink. As a result I made the recent lockdown period essentially productive for me. I did so many things; for which I couldn’t find time. Even though I really miss school, my friends and especially the time when we could go out as per our convenience without any restrictions, it all changed in days and now it’s been months.

Staying indoors, the lockdown came as a restricted vacation for our family. We really enjoyed spending time together, every evening we would watch television and have tea breaks, play games, sing along, read and do workouts together. All this was lost due to our busy lives and work schedules.

I have been writing short stories, novels and articles for a long time, but I always felt something was amiss. It was during this lockdown that I realised that a professional course was mandatory if I wanted to pursue writing. So, I decided to sign up for an online course to learn to write effecti-vely. I wanted to make the most of the lockdown so I subscribed to websites, attended webinars just so that I could start writing professionally and get my work published.

Baking was something that never crossed my mind. And it all started when my brother asked me whether or not I would like to bake with him and our grandmother. Even though at that time I wasn’t really keen but for some reason I agreed. That was the beginning for me and after that I went on a baking spree. I would bake something or another every day be it cakes, brownies, cookies and so on. It was such a fun and a wholesome experience. I think god always has a plan, trust it, live it, enjoy it.
