DG (family welfare) among 749 fresh Covid cases in Lko

LUCKNOW:Five more patients succumbed to Covid-19 and 749 tested positive for the virus in Lucknow on Monday, taking the death toll to 291 and infection tally to 22,585 in the district. The state capital had 6,966 active cases, which was the highest in UP.

Among the fresh cases were director-general (family welfare) Dr Mithilesh Chaturvedi and an additional chief medical officer. “I am in home isolation without any symptoms,” said Dr Chaturvedi. As many as 15,328 patients had so far been discharged from hospitals after recovery, said officials.

During the day, three patients from other districts also died in the city. Among the deceased were an 82-year-old man from Indira Nagar who succumbed at a private medical college and a 31-year-old woman from Jahangirab­ad. She was admitted to hospital on August 15.

“She died due to septic shock,” said Dr Sudhir Singh, spokespers­on, KGMU. A 73-year-old man from Gonda and a 60-year-old man from Gorakhpur also died at e KGMU.

Many areas of the city reported Covid positive cases – Ashiana 25, Indira Nagar 32, Alambagh 29, Thakurganj 23, Talkatora 21, Hasanganj 13, Chinhat 25, Gomti Nagar 38, Mahanagar 22, Hazratganj 30, Madiaon 28, Rae Bareli road 19, Aliganj 17, Chowk 27, Jankipuram 20, Vikas Nagar 13, Saadatganj 11, Gudamba 14, Hussaingan­j 12, Bazarkhala 18, Krishnanag­ar 11 and Naka 10. During the day, 519 patients were discharged while 81 patients opted for home isolation. Samples of 4,663 people were taken under the contact tracing exercise in the city.

RECOVERY RATE 61.81% AMONG HOME ISOLATION PATIENTS

Till now, 13,044 patients have opted for home isolation, of which 8,193 have recovered and 4,851 are under treatment. The recovery rate among patients in home isolation in Lucknow is 62.81%, according to data.

The remaining 9,541 patients got admitted to Covid-19 health facilities. Of these, 7135 have recovered (recovery rate 74.78%).

“It has been observed that people are recovering fast in home isolation as they live in the comfort of their homes,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Associatio­n of Internatio­nal Doctors.

MAHDI HOLDS CHARGE

Prof AA Mahdi has been given charge of the medical superinten­dent of the KGMU, where senior officials including the vicechance­llor have tested positive for Covid.

Medical superinten­dent Dr BK Ojha, along with pro-vice chancellor Prof GP Singh and dean paramedica­l Dr Vinod Jain also tested positive on the campus along with about 200 others.
