LUCKNOW : The state government will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) and Small industrial Development Bank of India (SIDBI) for the promotion of One District One Product (ODOP) scheme in Uttar Pradesh.

“NIFT will impart training to ODOP artisans associated with textile, leather and carpet products. Experts from NIFT will help artisans in designing their products according to the latest trend,” said UP MSME minister Sidharth Nath Singh.

“NIFT will also make available raw material, fabric and colour to artisans according to the prevailing trend in Europe, the US and other international markets,” said Singh. NIFT experts and the state government will help artisans promote their products in the international market.

“Experts of the Indian Institute of Packaging will help artisans in improving designs of packing of their products and SIDBI will make available loans on easy instalments,” said Singh. The SIDBI will also promote export of ODOP products on caseto-case basis. The state government will also help in listing of companies trading in ODOP at the stock exchange.

The Yogi government had launched the ODOP scheme in January 2018. It has identified one special product each from all 75 districts of the state.

World-famous carpets of Bhadohi, brassware of Moradabad, locks of Aligarh, black pottery of Mirzapur, crockery of Khurja besides leather of Agra and Kanpur are among these products. The government has also opened common facility centres in the state. These centres provide facilities for testing, raw material depot and thereby complementing production process and training. They are operational in Barabanki, Jhansi, Kasganj, Ghazipur, Moradabad, Azamgarh, Chandauli, Jaunpur, Budaun and Firozabad districts.

The state khadi and village industries ministry is also encouraging artisans to attend fairs not only in Uttar Pradesh but also in other parts of the country and even international trade fairs.
