LUCKNOW:Spending two weeks in home quarantine after having been tested positive for Covid-19 was not an easy task for Harendra Kumar whose isolation period will be completed on Thursday.

Posted as superintended of police (SP), rural in Bulandshahr, he was diagnosed corona positive on August 10 after which he was confined to a room in his official residence on the doctor’s advice. “There are a lot of physical and emotional issues that one has to experience during home isolation,” said Rekha, Kumar’s wife, adding, “After he was sent into home isolation, Harendra was cut off from the world outside and most often talked to me and two young sons through video calls as we were not allowed to enter the room.”

Though he has domestic aides, Kumar had to clean his room, washroom, change his bed sheet and do other chores regularly on his own, following the doctor’s advice. “He also had separate utensils which he put on a table at the door of the room and I would put food, beverages etc into them from a distance,” she said.

Passing time in confinement for 14 long days was, however, the most difficult thing for a police officer who is otherwise in the field for most of the time, often on holidays also. “After two days of quarantine, Harendra starting getting bored with no one around and he decided to get Munshi Premchand’s novels from a local library to pass the time,” Rekha said.

“Cut off from the family and others physically, books, cellphone and laptop were his closest friends during home isolation,” she said. Harendra’s second test report came negative on August 21, much to the relief of the family.
