SENIOR CITIZEN RECOUNTS HIS HOME ISOLATION
Iam a 61-year-old retired railway officer living in Tulsiani Golf View Apartments in Sushant Golf City, a green area away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I and my wife lead a fairly healthy life style with morning walk, yoga sessions and a weekly round of golf.
One evening I felt slightly tired and had fever which did not go away in a day or two as had been the case earlier with such fevers. I got railway doctors to advise me telephonically on the protocol. They put me on antibiotic and paracetamol. I got some blood tests done, including for dengue and finally for Covid. All came negative. Fever went away in 3-4 days but uneasiness and tiredness remained. Meanwhile, my wife also picked up the fever with similar symptoms. Finally I, my wife and daughter all tested positive for Covid. Soon calls started pouring in from Covid control room of the UP government. We requested for home isolation which was agreed to reluctantly as my age is 61 (60 plus). We have a four bedroom flat and we stayed separately in one room each.
We started sharing all household work as we had already told the maid to not visit us. Friends and family sent food, fruits and dry snacks for the first few days after which we told them that we did not need assistance and they should not unnecessarily expose themselves to risk. We ordered vegetables, fruits and milk and took deliveries without physical contact with online payment. Our bodies responded well and the whole affair lasted 10-12 days for each of us. We relied heavily on consumption of fluids, including coconut water, fruit juices, lemon juice and honey etc, combined with steam inhalation twice a day. Throughout the UP government kept a close tab on us with daily calls. An official came to deliver Ivermectin and Doxy 100 on the second day. I feel the government is doing a very good job seeing the resources at hand and their people are sincere.
