LUCKNOW: The people in the age group of 21 to 40 years are becoming more vulnerable to the coronavirus infection than those above 60 years.

Additional chief secretary, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan Prasad said the data collected by the state health and family welfare department showed that 48.85% of the patients were in the age group of 21 to 40 years, whereas merely 8.57% of the patients were in the 60 + category.

About 14.15% of the patients are in the age group of 0 to 20 years and 28.43% in the age group of 41 to 60 years.

This clearly showed that the senior citizens were following the Covid protocol to protect themselves from infection and the family members were also taking adequate care of the elderly, he said.

A health department officer said post Unlock the people, particularly the young, could be seen moving in public places. Majority of them did not cover their face with masks nor maintain social distancing, leading to infection, he said.

Prasad said around 50% of the Covid patients in the state (26,270) out of the 52,651 active cases had opted for home isolation. A large number of people were opting for home isolation as it was convenient for them. The people should understand that they had to follow the Covid protocol during home isolation. They should not opt for home isolation merely to escape admission in hospital. If they had separate room and toilet to protect other members from infection, then only they should opt for home isolation, he said.

The health department supplied free medicine kit to the patients opting for home isolation. If they did not receive the kit they should contact the Integrated Covid Control and Command Centre established in all the districts, Prasad said.
