LUCKNOW: As a last resort against upcoming National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), some students along with their parents have appealed to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to support their demand for postponement of IIT-JEE.

The group has also requested the chief minister for a meeting.

The JEE exam are scheduled to begin from September 1, while NEET will be held on September 13. “Both NEET and JEE exams are being held when there is a steep rise in Covid-19 cases. How do they expect that our students will remain safe from Covid-19 in such conditions?” asked Rituparna Joshi a Lucknow resident whose daughter is preparing for NEET.

“We have written to the CM regarding this and requested his support,” she added. Both the exam are organised by National Testing Agency (NTA). The agency has increased the number of exam centres and has said that examination centres were allotted in a way to ensure that candidates don’t need to travel much. For NEET exam 166582 students will appear at 320 centres.

The JEE exam will be conducted at 66 centers in UP between September 1 and 6 in several shifts and 100706 students are expected to appear for the joint entrance examination. The teachers and students requesting postponement want so on three basic grounds.

“Firstly, the Covid-19 cases are on the rise and conducting exam will mean putting students at trisk. Then there are those who have tested positive or live in containment zones and then there are other issues of preparations getting hit due to the pandemic,” they said. “As parents we are deeply concerned about the safety of our children,” said Romit Singh whose two children are taking JEE.
