Medicine trader dies; SP MLC, wife, senior bureaucrat test +ve. City accounts for 11.90% of UP’s corona infection cases
LUCKNOW: The state capital on Sunday reported its steepest one-day spike of 999 new Covid-19 cases, which took the infection tally to 26,856, accounting for 11.90% of the total 2,25,632 cases reported in Uttar Pradesh till now.
Lucknow’s death toll among Covid-19 patients reached 346 with eight more fatalities, including a medicine trader.
The medicine trader, aged about 65 years, had a shop in Aminabad’s new medicine market. He was admitted to a private medical college.
“He was admitted (in hospital) for five days after he tested positive for Covid-19,” said Giriraj Rastogi, president of the medicine traders’ association.
“Prior to him, two other medicine traders from Aminabad and Indiranagar died after testing positive for Covid-19,” said Vikas Rastogi of the Lucknow Chemist Association.
A Samajwadi Party MLC and his wife tested positive in an antigen test.
“We are at home and have given samples for RT-PCR testing for confirmation, the report on which is awaited,” Anand Bhadauria tweeted.

A 32-year-old man from Kakori died at the corona ward at KGMU around 8.10am on Sunday.
He was admitted on August 29. “He died due to a cardio-pulmonary arrest and acute respiratory distress syndrome,” said KGMU spokesperson Dr Sudhir Singh. A 37-year-old woman from Jankipuram also died at KGMU’s corona ward at around 3.05pm on Sunday. She was admitted in the wee hours. “She died due to cardio-pulmonary arrest,” said Dr Singh. A 49-yearold man from Balaganj died late on Saturday night.
“The patient had chronic kidney disease and his haemodialysis was done. He died of cardiorespiratory arrest,” said Dr Singh.
A 32-year-old man from Gudamba died on Sunday morning. He was admitted in hospital on August 29. “He died of cardiorespiratory arrest,” said Dr Singh. A 47-year-old man from Gorakhpur, a 29-year-old man from Navi Basti in Shahjahanpur, a 35-year-old woman from Pahelia in Hardoi district and a 65-year-old man from Azamgarh also died at KGMU.
During the day, 865 patients were discharged from hospitals in the city, taking the total number of recoveries to 19,342 (72.02%).
