Minister among 6,193 new Covid cases in UP

The Covid tally in Uttar Pradesh crossed the 2.5 lakh mark on Friday and reached 2,53,175 with 6,193 fresh cases in 24 hours, including state minister Baldev Singh Aulakh. The death toll reached 3762 with 72 fresh fatalities.

The state capital reported maximum 924 fresh cases, taking the district’s tally to 30,496.

“On having early symptoms I got myself tested for Covid-19 and the report came positive. I am in home isolation on doctors’ advice,” the state minister tweeted, appealing to all who came in his contact recently to get themselves checked. Till now 16 ministers/senior politician­s in the state have tested positive.

“The number of active cases in the state is 58,595 while 1,90,818 patients have been discharged till now after treatment. Till now 61,96,994 samples have been tested in the state, including 1,46,601 samples in the past 24 hours,” said Amit Mohan Prasad, additional chief secretary, health in a media briefing.

Of the total active cases, 30,084 are in home isolation in the state. “Till now 1,15,194 patients have opted for home isolation and among them 85,110 have completed home isolation,” said Prasad. “This brings recovery rate in home isolation to 73.88%,” he said.

Among patients, 14.12% were aged up to 20 years, 48.70% between 21 and 40 years of age, 28.50% between 41 and 60 years and 8.68% above 60 years of age, said Prasad. Lucknow has maximum 7972 active cases.
