Tipplers’ delight: Tipple to flow at city bars again
LUCKNOW: Life and customers are all set to return to bars in the city soon, after more than five months of closure, as the district administration allowed their opening as part of Unlock 4. The accent, however, is on the Covid-19 protocols and their strict observance and enforcement.
Officials with the excise department further said that the total gathering at a bar should not exceed more than 50% of its capacity.
Additional chief secretary (excise) Sanjay Bhoosreddy said that orders have been passed for bars to operate. “There are no separate Covid protocols for bars. They will follow the same protocol that is applicable to restaurants,” he said.
He said that it will be the responsibility of bar owners to ensure that social distancing and other parameters of Covid protocol are strictly followed.
Altogether, the city has around 36 bars and the government’s decision to permit bars to resume services has brought

much relief to the owners. “Unlock 4 has indeed brought us much needed relief. It’s almost five months since we closed shop and the closure has severely dented revenues. Unlocking of bars will surely bring in some business,” said a bar owner, who said that bar owners are in the process of making arrangements to ensure that the Covid protocol is followed at their establishments.
Divisional commissioner Mukesh Meshram said, “Like other establishments in the city, it will be ensured that bars follow the Covid-19 protocols or else action will be initiated against them.”
